BETTY WEBB discusses and signs ANTEATER OF DEATH
Poisoned Pen, $24.95 (signed first edition)
CAROL'S FAVORITE
In a break from her Lena Jones' mysteries, this is Betty Webb's first Gunn Zoo Mystery, a good mystery with a bright, strong protagonist. To her uppercrust, much-divorced mother's dismay, Theodora "Teddy" Bentley works as a zookeeper at the seaside community's Gunn Landing Zoo. One morning after a black tie fundraiser for the zoo, Teddy discovers the remains of a tuxedo-clad man in the anteater's enclosure. No, he's not drunk and sleeping it off; he's dead, and seems to have been mauled by the anteater. An autopsy, however, shows that the Zoo Guild member was shot first – and the zoo director is killed next. When Teddy starts to ask questions, someone bashes her on the head, too.
